More behind this handshake than meets the eye

the handshake

Just being friendly? Or is there more behind this Hussain Dawood-Ken Morse handshake? The word is that Hussain Dawood, Farrouk Captain and some other hotshot business tycoons are working with Ken Morse, the MD of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center, on setting up a LUMS-like business school in Karachi – in fact, better than LUMS is what they are saying. Is there any truth to these rumours? Well, apparently Ken Morse spent the early part of the afternoon on Thursday locked up in a room with the rich and famous of the Karachi business community discussing the idea. Watch this space for more info as the dust settles.

Its about time that Karachi see some positive development in education sector. A lot of good engineering school exist but what the industry lacks is the commercialization of technology and the concepts that our brilliant students come up with.

I am sure a business school with the focus on entrepreneurship will be a cutting-edge experience for Karachiites and the economy of the city.

    Nothing can beat LUMS.

    hehe j/k

Seriously it would be great if we can have hi-fi world class universitiies. It will help a lot in collaborational efforts and at the least would raise the level of events taking place in LUMS which are currently limited to just gathering school kids and having party with em.

We already have great business schools in Pakistan but do we really have excellent technology schools here? Don’t u think there’s a need of building some world class technology school here where we can carryout excellent research as well? 🙂

Don’t you think we need industry that can utilize that research … the people are doing great research in current technology schools … but who is utilizing?

One more thing, don’t we need to change thinking process that there is not only one purpose to go IBA, LUMS or any other institute i.e. get a good job …

I appreciate efforts of PASHA for entrepreneurship

One of the problems that I see why research carried out by students today often ends up being a pile of notes left to gather dust, is that the research is not industry funded.

Abt thinking process which leads students to think that getting into MNCs is not all what is needed to be successful, certainly needs to be changed and I also appreciate the efforts that PASHA, Green&White and all those involved in SI sessions are doing.

Btw this reminds me….when r we going to have SI Session 7 Jehan? It’s already 16th of March….’am desperately looking forward to this event and yeah just a reminder..u ought to bug Dr. Umar Saif to attend it 🙂
