Vodafone to Offer Apple’s iPhone in Ten Markets

May 7, 2008 at 8:15 am 7 comments

Vodafone announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe. Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network.

When will we have an official iPhone service being offered in Pakistan? We have been hearing for quite a while that most of our telcos have applied to sell the iPhone in Pakistan. Are they making any headway, I wonder?

I guess, finally Apple will sign a deal with one of the provider, or are they going to loose on such a vibrant market?

One particular problem in using something like the iPhone in Pakistan (which really works best with a good internet connection) is the cost of using 3G in Pakistan.

Well guys I am keeping my fingers crossed. One bit of good news though. Although Telenor customer service apparently doesn’t know this, their SmartMail actually works on the iPhone. I was using my phone through Wifi but a friend who visited me yesterday, showed me how my tweaking one setting I could get it working on Edge. It is so liberating! Thanks Ali.

@Waqas: iPhone 3G version has not been launched as yet :). As far as data plans are concerned, its quite satisfactory to use it over GPRS or Edge (unlimited data plans are available). Have been using it on my WM phone as well as iPhone. However Youtube application is not that good over data but who cares we have wifi hehehe

Well i think apple should be the product of the century. It has changed the concept of mobiles and many companies tried copying it but failed and not even one has managed to compete with it. Nokia has come up with N97 which is nice but i do not think that its better than iphone. Well i am just waiting for NOKIA AEON ( http://www.domesticutilities.com/aeon.htm ) and i think this phone might be the best phone of the future.
Other than that apple is going to launch their TABLET PC ( http://www.domesticutilities.com/apple.htm ) next month and i think they are going to make bare money out of it as well.
