Privacy or Piracy???

privacy advocatesWhich one is the original? That is the question that Ahmed from Bangladesh (a delegate at the PI workshop) seems to be asking as he poses with the “original” and the “one-hour Bangkok copy” of The Privacy Advocates. Would the author Colin Bennett be able to tell the difference I wonder?

Bangkok seems to be a place where you can get copies of everything – even things that don’t actually exist. For instance, we went to the Mall adjacent to the hotel at which we were staying and we found lots of shops selling the iPhone 3G mini. It looked like the real thing – only much smaller and it can house 2 SIMMS and have both numbers available all the time. The mall also housed two authorized Apple resellers – no, they were not selling the fake iPhones.🙂

Several of the delegates bought one because it only cost around 2,700 Baht (Rs. 6,200) so they figured that if it didn’t work, they wouldn’t really be all that devastated. And if it worked, it would be a fabulous buy. Here you see Vickram Crishna (also a delegate at the PI workshop) posing with his new iPhone 3G mini. I wonder if he is pleased with it. He looks happy enough, don’t you think?

    You cannot blame Bangkok for that , almost all this stuff is made in China with exception to the copied book . btw try visiting Urdu Bazar someday and you’ll be amazed at the Novel collection there , unfortunately very seldom we can get copies of good informative books in Karachi .

    @Farhan I was just reporting – not apportioning blame.🙂
    @Zakintosh I didn’t think you would want one since you have an original iPhone
    @Talha I think one can only run the apps that are provided – there are enough. Can’t update from the app store. No there was no fake-Mac🙂

    @jehan: [No there was no fake-Mac :)]

    Actually, I did see a demo screen of Mac OS X on a PC laptop made to look a bit like a Mac, but didn’t go close enough to check out how really fake it was.
